Sagas are short stories, usually passed down orally, that transcend the boundaries of reality through fantastic and often supernatural elements - while usually retaining a core of truth

Legends take on an astonishing credibility through specific locations, historical figures or actual events. In addition to well-known legends of gods and heroes - such as those from Greek mythology or the Song of the Nibelungs - it is above all the folk tales that are deeply rooted in the respective region.

The folklorist and Benedictine monk Romuald Pramberger (1877-1967) from St. Lambrecht was an important keeper of this storytelling tradition. In the 1930s, he collected and documented the fairy tales and legends of our region - an invaluable cultural asset that continues to have an impact today.
